with the Children's Sermon!

Pastor Steve prepares us for Communion!

All Saints Day is an opportunity to give thanks
for all those who have gone before us in the faith.
It is a time to celebrate our history,
what United Methodists call the
tradition of the church.

Those who have gone before us this past year that we honor today on All Saints Sunday with a ringing of the bell for each one as their name was called:

 William Martz
Ronnie Deagen
Maggie Thomas
David Hopkins
Judy Deagen

Greenery and floral arrangement
placed in the church honored
these beautiful people
we celebrated this Sunday!

Communion followed the honoring of the Saints!

The Hymn of Preparation
"Bind Us Together"
was the perfect hymn to sing at this point!

Whoa! Thank you Worship Team
(Tara Washburn, Jeanie Holston, Davin Hutchinson,
James Montgomery, Micah Knight)
for blessing us with
"Power of the Cross."

As the offering plates were brought to the front,
the congregation and choir sang the Doxology,
"Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow."

Pastor Steve Holston's sermon:
"Disciples Stay in Love With God"
gave us ways to do just that!

Pastor Steve reiterated John Wesley's philosophy once again!

We can never hear that one too often!

He spoke about numerous Spiritual Practices
that help keep us on track!

One suggestion that should be easy enough for
everyone was to do ONE MINUTE of prayer
and/or scripture EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Our lives would be different! We should all try that!

We started the morning off
by STANDING UP for JESUS!

"Stand Up, Stand UP for Jesus"
Congregational Hymn of Praise

Davin Hutchinson, Minister of Music and Worship,
led the Chancel Choir through
"Sweet Hour of Prayer"
in preparation for the Call to Prayer!

Prayer time includes prayers for people
all over the community and the world!
The entire congregation is always invited
to submit names as they wish!

Stewardship Moment was brought by Kim Canady
who brought us the questions:
Ask yourselves what matters?
Ask yourselves what WILL matter?
"Leave a legacy of generosity!"

Pastor Steve Holston focused on Galations 5:13-15
for his sermon this day. Do Good! -
the second point in his sermon series.

We should be looking for GOOD
things to do because
"we are the presence of Christ in the world."

"Do all the good you can,
by all the means you can,
in all the ways you can,
in all the places you can,
at all the times you can,
to all the people you can,
as long as ever you can."

-John Wesley

The Chancel Choir's Offertory reflected
on Communion as they sang:
"I Will Remember Thee."

According to Thy gracious word,
In meek humility,
This will I do, my dying Lord,
I will remember Thee.

Thy body, broken for my sake,
My bread from heaven shall be;
Thy testamental cup I take,
And thus remember Thee.

Gethsemane can I forget?
Or there Thy conflict see,
Thine agony and bloody sweat,
And not remember Thee?

When to the cross I turn mine eyes
And rest on Calvary,
O Lamb of God, my sacrifice,
I must remember Thee-

Remember Thee and all Thy pains
And all Thy love to me;
Yea, while a breath, a pulse remains,
I will remember Thee.

And when these failing lips grow dumb
And mind and memory flee,
When Thou shalt in Thy kingdom come,
Jesus, remember me.

Janey Fallen delights the children
with her stories and lessons
during the Children's Sermon!

Angelic voices of the Chancel Choir
singing "Sweet Hour of Prayer"
leads us directly into prayer!

The Worship Team prepared us
for today's sermon in leading us
all to sing the beautiful:
"Ancient Words."

Pastor Steve Holston begins his sermon titled:
"Disciples Do No Harm"
with the first of the
Three Simple Rules of Discipleship:

1. Do no harm

2. Do good

3. Stay in Love with God

Earlier this October 6th morning deep thinking
and learning was happening in Sunday School
Classes all over the church, for example 1st - 4th
graders look on as Tommy James does a Biblical
Science Lesson: like oil & water, Jacob & Esau
did not mix well together.

God wants us to find loving ways
to resolve our differences and live in harmony.

Of course, Sunday School is not just for kids.
One of the several adult Sunday School Classes,
Lord's Ladies, is deep in their study of
the Book of Hebrews.

United Methodist Men's Fishing Trip
happened Saturday, October 6, 2018!

The men participated even
with the threat of rain!
What is a little more water?

Another Saturday event!

Saturday, October 6, 2018
at Minnie McDowel Park -
Blessing of the Animals

Pastor Steve participated
with the giving of blessings
with several of our members
and their precious pets!

September 29, 2018

Jerry McCarty was surprised with a
Retirement Party in Memorial Hall.
