Lenten Encounter Table - A Symbol of the Lenten Journey

The season of Lent consists of the 40 weekdays (Monday-Saturday) and 6 Sundays before Easter.  These 40 days are a symbol of the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness before his crucifixion.  One of the earliest traditions of the church has been to spend this season in reflection on the life and death of Jesus. During the Lenten season we are encouraged to go deep within our own heart and mind to make adjustments necessary to bring hope to ourselves and our world.  During this time, we listen more closely for the voice of God and His message of hope and redemption.

To set this reflective mood in worship, we will be featuring a Lenten Encounter Table featuring symbols of the spiritual journey we will take with Christ over the next 40 days.

The desert-like rocky landscape is symbolic of our journey into the wilderness that seems barren and unable to give us life.  The food and drink let us know that even when we experience fear and hopelessness, God will richly provide the sustenance needed to move forward in fearless faith.

As we start our Lenten spiritual walk with Christ, here are some questions to ponder:  How can I make my life shine brighter as a beacon of God's hope, healing, and forgiveness?  In what area do I need God's hope, healing, and forgiveness?  What can I offer as sustenance to others who may feel as if they are journeying in a hopeless and barren wilderness?
